Clean Eats | Target

Attention Target shoppers - you have so many healthy choices when shopping! I am VERY impressed with Target's new selection of Whole30, Paleo, and GMO Free products! They even have Kombucha - what what!! AND Non GMO Project Verifies tuna fish! So, I stocked up on a few things. Also, Applegate Natural's uncured beef hot dogs, and turkey bacon are also a great find too!

Justin's Almond Butter is probably my favorite almond butter - it's great with apples! If you haven't tried La Croix, I really recommend the coconut flavor - it's one of my favorites!

I am very happy to see more stores adding these healthy selections for their customers. Thank you, Target for doing this!!

Regrowing a Pineapple Plant

Even though I started this project in late 2013, in March 2014 I finally re-rooted a pineapple! After several attempts I finally figured out how master this!

I used an organic pineapple that was not ripe. Once I got the pineapple home, I twisted the top off, do not cut it. Next, pull off the lower leaves, you will see little brown roots when you pull the leaves off. I pulled about two inches of leaves off, and then place the top into a glass of water covering the bottom portion.

I placed the pineapple in a nice sunny location, and change the water about every other day. This will prevent yucky moldy water. Once your pineapple has roots, you can plant it in soil!

Chorizo & Poblano Breakfast Bowl

If you are craving a super spicy meal - make a chorizo and poblano pepper breakfast bowl! This is a super easy meal to make. I love making this on Sunday's as part of my meal prep, and eating it for breakfast during the week!

  • four medium size chorizo links - cut into bite size pieces (I used the Wegman's brand - they are Whole30 approved)
  • four medium size poblano peppers, seeds removed, cut into bite size pieces
  • two cups red potatoes, diced
  • three tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • one medium onion, diced
  • salt and pepper
This is a very easy recipe to make, which I enjoy! After I cut everything up, I add the extra virgin olive oil to a hot pan, and add all my ingredients. I let this cook until the red potatoes are soft, and  you can serve this with a poached egg. This breakfast bowl is really filling too!

Oil Pulling

Hello!! It's Monday, and I have been slacking on my oil pulling. I started it a few months ago to whiten my teeth, but I fell off the wagon. So, this morning I started again.

How I oil pull:
  • I do it first thing in the morning when I wake up. I have a jar of Trader Joe's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil on my night stand (this is the BEST coconut oil I have ever tried. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, get some!!)
  • I take a glob of the coconut oil and let it melt in my mouth
  • I swish it around in my mouth for about 15 minutes - find something to do that will distract you from the 15 minutes of swishing - I take a shower
  • Once you are done, spit it into the TRASH not the sink
  • I then rinse with warm salt water, and then brush me teeth
There are so many benefits of oil pulling:
  • detoxes
  • whitens teeth
  • helps with sleep
  • promotes oral health
  • clearer skin
  • increases energy

    Banana & Pumpkin Spice Smoothie

It's smoothie time! Now that I have completed my last Whole30 for 2014, I can now have smoothies. Of course my first smoothie for the first day of October has to have pumpkin - because pumpkin spice everything.

    • 1/2 can of pumpkin puree (my can size was 15 oz)
    • one whole banana peeled, and cut into chunks
    • one teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
    • a few ice cubes
    • 1/2 cup coconut milk - I used the So Delicious brand
    1. Add all your ingredients to your blender, blend until smooth, and sprinkle a little extra pumpkin pie spice to the top for a little extra pumpkin happiness.
    2. Enjoy!!

You can add extra coconut milk to your smoothie depending on how thick you want the smoothie.
