Cheers to 2014

Nothing is better than spending New Years Eve at home with your family, eating great food, and enjoying a great bottle of champagne! I am a Veuve kinda girl, so I will be relaxing on the couch enjoying my night!

2014 was an awesome year, and cannot wait for 2015! I hope everyone has a wonderful evening, and a healthy 2015!!

2014 The Year of Yoga

2014 went by too fast, but it was an amazing year!! After having Jackson in February, I started my practice again, and it felt so good to be back on the mat! I never thought I would ever accomplish a headstand, or let alone love inversions. I have become an inversion addict, but want to become more flexible in 2015. Cannot wait to challenge myself to learn more poses, and become a better yogi!

Here are my 14 favorite yoga poses for 2014!! Cannot wait to see what 2015 will bring, and continue to practice tons yoga!!

Winter Walk

When it's 60 degrees in Northern Virginia in December you take your family for a walk!

I LOVE my Baby Trend Jogger!! It was a gift when I had my daughter four years ago, and I have had zero issues with it! It has held up, and still going strong.

If you are a new mom, or a mom-to-be I really recommend this one. I got the jogger, infant car seat, and base for around $200 at Wal-Mart. They have so many fun colors, but I registered for the orange to stay gender neutral.

We are a fit fam!

Smoothie Time

Since smoothies shouldn't be consumed during Whole30's, I am getting my smoothie fix in before January 1! This morning I made a pineapple, strawberry, spinach smoothie with coconut water, and some maca powder! SO GOOD! Also, maca powder really helps with that extra boost of energy I need in the mornings.

Happy Winter Solstice

Happy Winter Solstice!  Spent the day getting organized, meal prepping, and doing some yoga!!

Finally able to balance with no hands on my head, but just using my feet against the wall for support! Feels great to be able to do this, cannot wait to do this pose with no support! Practice.

Upside Down Clears my Mind

I have seriously been slacking on my yoga practice. I need to start making more time for myself, and really focus on getting back on the mat. I started my practice again Friday night, and I went upside down. I love doing headstands, and just balancing. It really helps clear my mind, and start to focus on things again.

Glad to be back on the mat, and moving forward!! 2015 I will own you with my yoga practice!!

Great Lakes Gelatin

This weekend I am going to make so many paleo things! I finally ordered Great Lakes Gelatin from Amazon.com. I really want to make paleo marshmallows, and fruit gummies for the kids! AND I have been craving some hot cocoa with marshmallows so BAD!

Gelatin is really good for your body too!
  • joint recovery
  • digestion
  • hair and nail growth
  • skin elasticity (loose skin & cellulite)
Cannot wait to share what I have made!!

Grocery Haul Trader Joe's & COSTCO

I love my grocery trips to Trader Joe's, and COSTCO. I really like trying new food too!

When I was at COSTCO, I decided to pick up their brand of coconut water. It was $5 less than the name brand too! Right now I am stocking up for my next Whole30 January 1st, and Trader Joe's had a few items that I wanted to try before I started my next round. They have a dairy free ice cream made from coconut milk - cannot wait to try that!!

Whole30 | 2015

Starting off 2015 with my sixth Whole30! This round, I plan on doing a 45 day challenge instead of 30 days. I want to fully reset, and take on 2015 the healthiest way I know how - by doing a Whole30.

If you are looking to do a Whole30, their website is the best to get all the details, and you can buy the book too! I found my book on Amazon.com!

Cannot wait for all the exciting things I have planned in 2015!!

Trader Joe's Roasted Plantain Chips | Review

If you are looking for something other than potato chips to snack on, I really love Trader Joe's Roasted Plantain Chips!

Charlotte, and Jackson love them! They are a perfect to dip into salsa and guacamole, and they are great for snacking on the go. I am all about easy meals for the kids while we are out running errands, and these are perfect!

Tonight we are going to use them to make Against All Grain's Plantain Chip Nachos.

Yoga | Backbends

Things that are really difficult for me in my yoga practice are backbends. To be honest with you, I really wanted to give up. But, then I remember how long it took me to master a headstand.

I love using the wall to help me with my yoga practice. It's great support, and it really helps when I am trying to stretch.

I found this really awesome yoga video on backbends, and it gave me confidence to get back into my practice: Yoga Body Workout: Yoga Body Workout: Backbend Class with Lesley Fightmaster.

Challenge yourself everyday, and DO NOT GIVE UP.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

Healthy Snacking on the Go

I like my meal prep to be really simple, but very healthy. So, when I need to plan I always grab some sort of bar, and a beverage.

LARABAR's are a great afternoon snack, and I really love Epic Bars! Absolutely love drinking kombucha, and juice too. Sometimes you need a break from water, and coffee. Evolution Fresh makes awesome juices that you can find at your local Starbucks.

Morning Skin Care Routine

Now that I have updated my nighttime skin care routine, here's what I am doing for my morning routine. My morning skin care routine is very simple, and basic. I use gentle cleanser for my face. After I have washed my face, I follow that with toner, eye and lip cream, and a sunscreen.

If you don't use harsh chemicals on your face, I really recommend the OSEA products. Their products are AMAZING, vegan, gluten free, and sulfate free.

I start off  by washing my face with their Ocean Cleanser, and this also helps me wake up! It smells so good!! After I wash, I pat dry my skin, and use OSEA Sea Minerals Hydrating Mist. I spritz a little on a cotton ball, and gently apply to my face. This toner is great for sensitive skin, helps restore mineral balance, and reduces redness.

Next, I gently pat the OSEA Eyes and Lips cream under my eyes, and around my lips. It hydrates, it stimulates collagen, loaded full of antioxidants, and feeds the collagen fibers in your skin.

I am a big fan of always using sunscreen. My go-to sunscreen is Alba Botanica Kids Broad Spectrum SPF 45 Sunscreen. Alba's sunscreen contains no parabens, not tested on animals, and uses 100% vegetarian ingredients. I apply this to my face, neck, and hands. Don't forget about applying sunscreen to your hands!! Nobody wants wrinkled hands!!

Check them out for more great products!!

Trader Joe's Wintry Blend Coffee | Review

Trader Joe's kills it again with their coffee!! If you haven't picked up their Wintry Blend - go now!! It is sprinkled with spices, and delight.

It's a medium roast, not too bold. I like bold coffee, but this coffee is really good! Stock up now for the winter!!

Week Four Working on my Fitness

A little late to post, but here's what I did for week four of working out. Not going to lie, it wasn't much. I did yoga, I ran, and I ate horrible on Thanksgiving. Started off eating Paleo, but that apple pie was calling my name.

So, I decided to detox Friday the 28th, by starting the gallon challenge. I am drinking a gallon of water a day. It might seem like a lot, but I come pretty close everyday already drinking water. Sometimes you need to have set backs to get you motivated again!!

If you haven't taken a spin class yet, I really recommend it! I took a class on Sunday, and I am still sore! This will be something else I will add to my gym routine!

Dark Chocolate Bark | Paleo Treats

Love dark chocolate! It is really high in antioxidants, can help protect your skin from the sun, and helps with brain function. Everything I need.

I decided to make dark chocolate bark - it's so easy to make too!!

  • I used dark chocolate (99% cacoa 9.7oz.) if you don't like too dark of chocolate, you can always use a lower percentage
  • I went to Wegman's bulk section and found their trail mix (almonds, pumpkin seeds, cranberries) you can use whatever you want - just a couple of scoops - or however crunchy you want your bark :)
  1. Break up the chocolate, and heat in 30 second increments - and stir each time
  2. Once the chocolate is melted, stir in the trail mix of your choice
  3. Pour on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper
  4. Place in fridge for about 45 minutes
  5. Break into pieces, and enjoy!!
These would be perfect gifts for the holiday's too!!

butter LONDON | HRH Review

Decided to treat myself to a mani and pedi yesterday! I picked up butter LONDON's nail polish at Ulta in HRH or Her Royal Highness.

Loving this purple for the fall! It's not too dark, but has a subtle shimmer. The best part is this nail polish does not contain formaldehyde, no animal testing, and cruelty free.

This color will be my signature color for the fall, and winter!

Kids Eat Clean

As much as I would love Charlotte, and Jackson to be 100% Paleo - it just isn't always realistic. So, I am working on getting them 80/20. I don't mind them eating dairy as long as it's organic, and I would like it to be whole milk.

So, I decided to do a haul on what I am feeding my kids. My son is nine months, and is over baby food. He would rather eat the real deal, and that works out perfectly too! As long as they are eating clean that's all I want.

Here's a breakdown of what I buy - and I try to buy organic as much as possible:
  • blueberry gluten free waffles
  • organic yogurt - Jackson loves yogurt!! Trader Joe's makes an awesome yogurt for when you're on the go, and it's awesome frozen too!!
  • gluten free pasta - and quinoa pasta is amazing!!
  • organic pasta sauce
  • organic whole milk
  • gluten free pancake mix - big fan of anything Bob's Red Mill
  • black beans - my daughter LOVES beans
  • organic turkey bacon from Wegman's is the best!!

Cannot wait to post more of what my kids are eating!!
