Why I love my Fitbit

I absolutely LOVE Fitbit's customer service! I bought my Fitbit Flex in December 2014, and it recently died. It wouldn't sync, and I tried to reset it a few times. Nothing would bring my Fitbit back to life. I reached out to their customer service team using the chat option on their website. They were able to determine that it wasn't holding a charge. In less than twenty minutes, they were mailing me a replacement Fitbit Flex. That is customer service.

My Fitbit keeps me really motivated. I sit in my car fighting Northern Virginia Traffic daily, I sit at my desk from 9 - 5. So, I needed something that would motivate me more to keep moving. My Fitbit keeps me moving! You get to meet a fun community of Fitbit friends that allow you to have fun competitions with other Fitbit users. I now walk over a mile to and from the parking garage at work, and I walk during my lunch break. It really is worth having, and I really recommend owning one.

You can also track how much water you drink, your sleep, your most active, and least active days. Fitbit offers various models that do more if you are looking to track your heart rate. I use my Polar Watch to track my heart rate and calories when I am working out. When I decide to upgrade my Polar Watch and Fitbit Flex, I will look into getting the Fitbit Surge. Until then, I really love my Fitbit Flex!

Egg Muffin Cups // Two Ways

I have seriously been slacking on my blog! I have received a lot of requests for the egg muffin cups that I have posted on Instagram. They are so EASY to make too! You can make them with or without bacon depending on how you want them. You could even use deli ham, or prosciutto instead of bacon. 
  • six slices of bacon, ham, prosciutto (you don't have to use meat if you don't prefer it)
  • six eggs 
  • diced veggies of your choice (jalapenos, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, onion, spinach, squash, are a few things you can add)
  • season with dash of salt, pepper, and onion powder
  • muffin tin  
  1. preheat oven to 375 degrees
  2. scramble the eggs, and season with salt, pepper, and onion powder
  3. add all your diced veggies to your scrambled eggs
  4. line your muffin tins with the meat of your choice (I did not use cooked bacon, this didn't make the eggs soggy, it did add really good flavor to the egg cups)
  5. spoon in the scrambled egg/veggie mixture to your muffin tin
  6. bake for 15 - 20 minutes depending how fast your oven cooks
If you want to make them Whole30 approved make sure the meat you are using doesn't have added sugar.

La Croix has New Flavors!!

Who else is excited about the new La Croix flavors!?! When I heard the announcement - you know I was stalking the shelves at Target. After a few trips to my favorite store, they finally had them.



The new flavors are Blackberry Cucumber, Cantaloupe Pink Grapefruit, and Kiwi Watermelon. I had to pick up a case of Orange - it's a family favorite! I have only tried the Blackberry Cucumber, and it's really good. It's light, and refreshing - and doesn't leave an aftertaste in your mouth. These are GREAT alternatives to soda. I gave up soda a little over two years ago, and don't miss it. Even when I have a "cheat" meal, I never have a soda.They are Paleo and Whole30 approved too!!

Trader Joe's Haul

I love spending my Friday nights cruising the local Trader Joe's store. It's like a mini vacation! I am always finding new things to try! I picked up a pack of sparkling water, and a pack of their shishito peppers that I cannot wait to try!

I bought extra bananas so I can freeze them for my smoothies. Frozen bananas are a great time saver when you need them to add to your smoothies! Also, their frozen turkey burgers are amazing! They are so quick to make, and they are a lifesaver for when you don't feel like making a big dinner. Which I feel like has been our summer lately! I haven't been making a lot of big meals, and we really haven't grilled that much. Since we are selling our house, we always have to have it "show ready," so meals have been quick just in case we have to leave for a showing! I am glad I have found a lot of quick meal options, and keeping it Paleo/Whole30 approved. Cannot wait to get back into our "normal" routine once the house is officially sold!

Hiking Virginia | Crabtree Falls

Virginia is SUCH an awesome state to live in. It's absolutely gorgeous, and you can go to so many wonderful places to hike.

I am adding a new "thing" to my list of things I enjoy - Hiking Virginia. I am making a list of places I want to hike in the state I live in! Last weekend a friend and I went hiking at Crabtree Falls. I had zero problem setting my alarm for 4am on a Saturday morning to hike this trail.

Crabtree Falls located in George Washington National Forest has the tallest waterfall in Virginia - and it was beautiful. There are so many points during the hike that you can see it. The total hike is 13.9 miles, but we only did the 3.8. You can also hike the Appalachian Trail from the upper waterfall. Cannot wait to go back and hike the whole trail!

 
             

             

             

 
           

             

 
 
The trail is a level 2, but it is very rocky. I would come prepared with a backpack, water, and snacks. Also, this trail is dog and kid friendly. I saw a lot of people hiking with their kids (toddler ages), and with their dogs.

Whole90 Meal Wrap Up // Part One

I wanted to share some of my favorite Whole30 approved meals that I ate while doing my Whole90. I love breakfast food for any meal of the day! Remember while doing a Whole30 always read your labels, and meal prepping will always save your day. Meal prepping will prevent you from falling off track, and it's a big time saver during the week. It also gives you more time to do things for yourself, and you're not stuck in the kitchen always cooking!

Eggs with chorizo, and sautéed spinach with tomatoes - so good! While meal prepping I always make a big batch of sausage either on the grill, or in the oven. HUGE time saver!

 
 
I love zoodles! I don't even miss the actual spaghetti noodles anymore! They are so easy to make. After making the zoodles, I add a small amount of water to a large microwavable bowl, and heat for about 25 seconds. I then top the zoodles with sausage, and a Whole30 approved pasta sauce. Always read your labels - make sure no sugar is added to the sauce! 
 

 
 
Prosciutto wrapped around cantaloupe is amazing. If you haven't tried it, you need to. After completing my first Whole30 two years ago, I fell in LOVE with black coffee.  

 
 
Again prosciutto is amazing. If you are having a hard time finding a Whole30 approved bacon - it's much easier to go the prosciutto route. I am getting better at my omelet flipping skills too! I was getting a little bored with eating avocados, so I started adding plantains to my meals. 

 
Doing a Whole90 might seem like a lot, but once you get the hang of meal prepping it does get easier!

Overnight Dairy Free Chia Pudding

If you are looking for an alternative to eating eggs while doing a Whole90/Whole30 or in general - overnight chia pudding is a very easy option. When I say easy - it takes less than five minutes to make - if that.

You don't even need a ton of ingredients to make it.
  • one full fat can of coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds 
  • fresh fruit for topping - I used fresh bananas and strawberries for this overnight pudding
  1. add the full can of coconut milk to a Mason Jar - I use the 16oz Ball Regular Mouth jars
  2. add the chia seeds
  3. cover with lid, and shake until well mixed
  4. let sit in the fridge overnight
  5. top with fresh fruit
  6. enjoy!!

If you want you can add honey or vanilla extract if you need it to be sweater. I would recommend maybe a teaspoon or so depending on how sweet you prefer it.

Life After My Whole90

I went shopping at Trader Joe's last night (day 89), and stocked up mostly on Whole30/Paleo compliant food. Even though my Whole90 (writing this on day 90) isn't over yet, only a few more hours left, I am writing this post. There are a few things I would like to eat again - gluten free oatmeal, maybe some quinoa, and maybe have glass of red wine!

While shopping for my normal items, I picked up a bunch of great things that I cannot wait to try. Hemp seeds, figs, organic red wine, gluten free rolled oats. I am a sucker for Trader Joe's. I love walking around the store for new things. I even went to a new store to shop at!




So, here's my life after my Whole90.

I have completed six Whole30's, and one Whole90, and they have all been different. The first one I completed in May 2013, I lost the most weight. The ones I completed after, I learned something new each time. There have been a few where I only lost a few pounds. I don't plan on posting before, and after photos. I didn't do this Whole90 to drop any weight. I did this as a complete reset, and change my WHOLE relationship with food. I felt like I needed more than 21 days to form a habit.

My six Whole30 I did in January went well, but after my birthday in March, I really fell off the Paleo wagon. I ate horrible, and felt that I needed more than 30 days to form a better habit with food. Things I do know about myself 1.dairy makes me breakout 2. gluten makes me bloated, and lethargic. So, knowing those things, I know that's what I will stay away from after my Whole90.

Also, I broke up with the scale. It's overrated. Numbers on the scale don't matter to me. It feels great not stepping on a scale every morning worrying about that number. As long as I feel great with myself, that's all that matters.

I am not perfect, and I am not saying I won't enjoy food, but I do know what does and doesn't work for me. I really recommend doing an extended Whole30 if you ever get the chance. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. Around day 17 I had so much energy, but around day 55 I wanted to quit. There wasn't any reason either, I just got bored. I decided that I went so far with the challenge, and couldn't stop. I am glad I didn't quit, and would love to do another Whole90. I feel amazing. I have a lot of energy. I started running again, my skin looks amazing, and I just feel really balanced.

Thank you all that have supported me during this crazy challenge. I don't think I could have done it without the awesome support system that I have. Both in my daily life at home, and on social media.

Snacking | Whole90 Style

I have been keeping my snacking to a minimum during my Whole90, but sometimes I need something. Trader Joe's fruit bars are amazing. Plus you can't beat the price either -  $0.99 each. They are perfect on-the-go snacks, and great for kids snacks!!



One thing that was really hard for me to give up during this Whole90 was smoothies. Ninety days with out a smoothie can be rough, but I also have a love for kombucha. I love drinking them, and they make me feel great! It's hard to pick a favorite flavor, they're all amazing.


Keeping it clean and following the rules, but so ready for a smoothie!!

Stuffed Sweet Potatoes | Whole90

I wish I made this at the beginning of my Whole90 challenge! If you like sweet and spicy, I really recommend stuffing sweet potatoes with spicy shredded chicken. It's even better topped with cole slaw!

All you need is this recipe here, or look a couple of post down. Bake a few sweet potatoes, top with the spicy shredded chicken, and enjoy! Super easy to make, and it's perfect if you pack your lunch for work. My co-workers were drooling!


My meals aren't super crazy to make, and I like to keep it simple for everyone to enjoy! You don't have to follow a Paleo lifestyle to enjoy this recipe!

Slow Cooker Shredded Spicy Chicken

Doing a Whole90, and trying to keep our house clean to sell has been really difficult. My meals have been really simple, and repetitive. Eggs, grilled chicken, tuna salad on repeat. I am not tired of the meals, but I wish I could really get back into my weekend meal planning groove. It's hard to start making food, and then having to leave your house so someone can view it. BUT I am not complaining!

So, I decided to bust out my slow cooker and make some shredded chicken. I wanted something that I could make that could be used for a variety of meals. Since we are also trying to minimalize our pantry, and get rid of a lot of stuff, I decided to throw some Frank's Red Hot into the mix.

If you are into minimal ingredients, something quick, this is a great meal to make. You can also freeze it too!
  • four chicken breast
  • garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper
  • one cup Frank's Red Hot
Add your chicken breasts to the slow cooker, season with all the spices listed above (I didn't measure, but you can I would say maybe a teaspoon of each), and then pour one cup of Frank's Red Hot over the chicken. Let the chicken cook on low 4 - 6 hours. My slow cooker cooks food really fast! At about four hours, I took a fork and shredded the chicken breast. I turned off the slow cooker, and let it sit for about 30 minutes to let it soak in the hot sauce. SO GOOD!  




I made a simple cole slaw to enjoy with the shredded chicken (shredded cabbage, paleo mayo, salt, pepper, celery seed, vinegar - mix and enjoy).

Farmer's Market Fun

I haven't been to the farmer's market in a couple of weeks. Trying to sell our house, and house hunting has been a lot of work. Now that things are starting to calm down, I am able to get back into my routine.

Finally made it there today! I needed a whole bunch of stuff since I was running low on a lot of things. Tomatoes, squash, and zucchini are always on my list. I have a ton of fresh peaches left over from peach picking last weekend (blog post soon!).


So glad to pick up fresh peppers, and cabbage this time! I got all of this for $25! Trying to stay within my grocery budget is getting easier. I go with a list, and cash. This stops me from buying unnecessary items, and things don't go to waste.
